“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ.” –Romans 10:17
We live in some pretty chaotic times. And it is quite easy to get caught up in it. We hear a lot from the news cycles, social media, and people around us. But what is the truth? It is very hard to discern truth these days from what the world tells us, but as believers we can stand confident in knowing that we have the Truth, the Word of Christ, the Gospel, to help us in these “times of the signs.”
At GCA, we spend a lot of time looking at what is happening around us so that we have a current and relevant understanding of the fallen world in which we live. From there, we disciple students towards leaving a legacy of walking with Christ. How does that happen? Proclaiming the Word of Christ. In doing so it helps us as believers to stay grounded on a solid foundation as the underpinning of the world falls apart. Our faith increases as we read God’s Word and we grow each day in wisdom, stature, and favor as our mission statement proclaims. This is the inward piece.
The outward piece is that we become compelled to witness God’s Truth to the world. In the times we live, we as Christians have the Truth of God’s Word, the Gospel, to understand and discern what is happening around us. When you know that you have the Truth and it is living and growing through you, there comes a point that you are driven to share God’s Truth with a world that is hopeless, dying, and perishable. If we only forge ahead trying to win the next argument, debate, or discussion with people around us, then we are only prolonging their eternal place in hell. We must point them to Jesus and the Truth of God’s Word. He is the salvation that they are looking for. And if we are not sharing that truth, then they will never hear and never put their faith in the One that will save them.
God created everything. Sin entered the world. Sin is rebellion against God and deserves death. No one is without sin and will therefore die and face spiritual separation from God for eternity. That’s bad news. The Good News is that Jesus Christ came to pay the penalty of death for our sin on the cross and then rose again so that we can be made new. (2 Corinthians 5:17) And if we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, then we will be saved. This is what we need to be proclaiming to the world in the times we live. Rather than getting caught up in foolish and ignorant arguments that only lead to quarrels, let’s point people to Jesus so that they can hear, repent, and come to faith in Him. We have the Truth of the Gospel, the Word of Christ–let’s get out there and share it.
