“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” –John 11:25-26 ESV
There are a lot of comforting words from Jesus. For me, verses 25-26 in John 11 are one of the most comforting–I am the resurrection and the life!
Paul makes it very clear in 1 Corinthians 15 that without the resurrection, our Christian faith is worthless–to the point that people should feel sorry for us in believing in such nonsense. But the evidence is overwhelmingly clear: Jesus Christ did rise from the dead! So the question is not whether He did rise to new life or not, the question is what will we do with Jesus? As Jesus said to Martha in John 11: Do you believe this?
This Easter, we all have a choice. We can believe in and live for Jesus Christ or we can reject Him. We can embrace that He lived, died, and rose again for us, or we can reject it. Honestly, what are the benefits of rejecting Jesus? I have yet to have anyone tell me that. Many have told me how His defeating sin on the cross and defeating death in rising from the grave have given them a new resurrected life, but I have yet for anyone to tell me the opposite. Why? It’s quite simple really: There is no liberty in being a slave to sin and no victory in dying and going to hell. Oh, some may have some fun in the short term, but ultimately a life that is bound by sin leads to death and eternal separation from God forever. Correct me if I am wrong, but I see no benefit in that bad news. I will choose a life with Jesus today and everyday for eternity! That is Good News!
Again, we have a choice. As the Holy Spirit brings conviction on your heart this week leading up to Resurrection Sunday, do your eternal life a favor, respond to the call and come to know Jesus as your Lord and Savior today! Change your eternal address from hell to heaven today so you too can declare that He is the resurrection and the life!
Have a blessed time coming together in fellowship this week to remember our King!
